One great thing about visiting a foreign country is seeing things you just can’t see at home. In the Dominican Republic, the Pico Isabel de Torres very close to La Vista, Villas Cofresí can let you do just that very, very literally! The Pico Isabel de Torres is a mountain rising 793 meters above sea level and you can see a very long way from its peak. Almost in the heart of Puerto Plata, the Pico Isabel de Torres is a must-visit site on your next Dominican Republic vacation.
Named for Queen Isabella by Christopher Columbus himself, the Pico Isabel de Torres also, indirectly, helped name the city of Puerto Plata too. According to legend, when Columbus first saw the peak, he remarked that because of its cloud cover it looked like there was “silver plate” sitting on it. The mountain does have a flat top which makes it an excellent place to view Puerto Plata Bay and the surrounding environment.
The view isn’t the only reason to make your way up the Pico Isabel de Torres. On top of the mountain is a lush botanical garden showcasing many different flower varieties found across the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean. There is also a nature walk across the mountain itself for a more authentic view of local plant life.
