The ocean and the beaches get all the attention, but don’t forget that the Dominican Republic is covered by acres of beautiful terrain. Not very far from Puerto Plata, Villas Cofresí, and La Vista is Salto del Rio Damajagua. This truly natural attraction is a sight you’ll never forget. Dozens of waterfalls run through a complex series of caves, tunnels and pools. It’s a beautiful and remarkable site and can be an energetic way to spend a day.
Now, all that being said, Damajagua is not for the faint of heart! Getting to these waterfalls is much easier said than done, since they are right in the middle of the Dominican Republic’s formidable natural landscape. You’ll need to be able to swim and have reasonable upper body strength for your size. Exploring Damajagua is a real adventure, but if that’s what you’re into, then you’ll absolutely love it.
When you’re ready to visit Damajagua for some serious vacationing, we recommend doing so with a touring company. You can explore the area by yourself, but most tour packages are reasonably priced and a few will take you through all 27 waterfalls. Above all, stay safe and get ready to see some amazing natural beauty.
